Unlocking Latent Value: What does it mean?

Sn0wdenadminLatest News

At Snowden our tagline is “Unlocking Latent Value”. It is supported by our mission to “Deliver value through powerful insight and innovation”. Sounds good, but what does it really mean to us, and what can it mean to you.

What is “latent value”?

Latent - (of a quality or state) existing but not yet developed or manifest; hidden or concealed. (Oxford Dictionary)

Each business has a hypothetical ceiling of value. It should not be controversial to say that this is a higher value than the actual business itself; because there is always room for improvement.

Latent value is value that is available but not yet found, it is the gap between reality and what is possible. It is what is left after the easy wins have been had. It is the value that is locked up in divisional, functional, psychological, educational, spatial and temporal silos.

How is latent value “unlocked”?

The ironic thing is that quite often value that is latent now, is obvious once uncovered. We call this “uncommon sense”.

But while obvious post-fact, it is often quite difficult to find. This is because it is very difficult to overcome a silo by yourself. Local optimisation, optimisation within your area of understanding, will only get you so far.

Overcoming silos requires a systems approach, understanding the full economic, technical and technological value chain. It is not common for someone to have a deep understanding of all three elements. Because of this there is a need to work in teams with different backgrounds, to learn from each other, communicate well and be open to being challenged on your assumptions. As simple as this seems in writing, in practice it has proved to be extremely difficult. Every day we work to improve our ability to unlock latent value.

What can it mean for you?

We pride ourselves on the ability to dig deeper than our competitors. We have a deep understanding of the economic factors that drive the organisation, and how they relate to both technical and technological complexities. We also can support our intuition and domain knowledge with data and software, developed over many years after solving common problems in the industry.

And it also means you get a team with intent: the intent to improve and drive outcomes for you. To augment your team with a different perspective, the perspective we expect to help to take your business to the next level. We never forget the ultimate objective, which is to drive value for your business. We are more powerful when we work together. So let’s get started!

What does it mean for Snowden?

Internally, unlocking latent value is a challenge to ourselves. We need to look deeper, and think outside the box in order to get the desired. It is this challenge that drives:

  • Who we hire
  • Where we invest
  • The software we develop
  • Who we partner with

If you can’t be someone who helps  to unlock latent value, then the fit isn’t there.

Unlocking Latent Value: It is more than a phrase, it is our culture.
