Snowden is pleased to announce two key appointments; Jess Maddren as General Manager QCC MT Snowden, and Dr Jacqui Coombes as Innovation Manager.
The formation of Downer’s Mining, Energy and Industrial division provides the opportunity to bring Snowden, Mineral Technologies and QCC Resources together under the leadership of Jess Maddren. Jess is a trained geologist and was most recently General Manager at ALS Oil & Gas in Texas. “As one team, our combined expertise is very much at the front end of the mining cycle” she said. “We are able to deliver our customers a full service offering where they maximise their resource through geological characterisation, mining sequence optimisation, mineral process flowsheet optimisation and customised mineral processing equipment to minimise waste and maximise the mineral asset for a return on investment.”
Jacqui first joined Snowden in 1994 and re-joins after a 12 year absence, during which she ran a successful technical mentoring business, wrote two books in the field of geostatistics (with one more on the way), and was most recently General Manager – Innovation at METS Ignited, an industry-led, government-funded Growth Centre for the mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sector. Jacqui’s role will focus on developing closer relationships with our customers and the industry, ensuring our products and services continue to help solve customer problems, delivering value and identifying areas where we can develop new products to meet evolving needs.
“We are pleased to add two highly capable, passionate and well connected people to our business, in Jess and Jacqui,” said Dr Tarrant Elkington, Global Manager of Snowden.
“Jess has achieved a lot in a short time, from running labs and large teams, to the rapid growth of start-up businesses and eventual sale. She brings such energy and passion to the team, and a drive to be successful.”
“Jacqui is a unique character within our industry. She is highly intelligent: her skills and areas of expertise are perfectly aligned to our key focus areas in geostatistics and resource governance. She is also extremely passionate about sharing her knowledge and expertise; helping to advance the industry through collaboration and communication. I am excited to see what Jacqui brings to our business, and to the industry in this second stint with Snowden.”
The additional of Jess and Jacqui brings the proportion of females in the Snowden business to 50%. “While not our direct intention, it just seemed that we were finding great female candidates to fill our areas of need. Nonetheless, I am proud of this milestone. Snowden has a long history of strong female leaders, starting with our co-founder in Viv Snowden, and our diversity, not just of gender, but of thought, will be important to our success going forward.”
Snowden is also launching a refocused business strategy around “Delivering Excellence in Resources and Reserves”.
“Resources and reserves are at the heart of everything we do,” says Tarrant. “We help people to estimate the resource in the ground, either through consulting, training or our world-class Supervisor software. We help advance that with mine planning and ultimately a reserve that stands up to scrutiny. We also have developed mine reconciliation software, Reconcilor, which helps clients identify any anomalies between their resources, reserves and actual product, to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Finally, we have developed software, Regulator, to assist companies in storing and reporting their resources and reserves in a consistent and secure manner.”
“We are driven by the pursuit of excellence in these areas. It is our unique blend of domain and digital capabilities that allow us to develop software that drive straight to core problems, and to give our consultants the freedom to build intellectual property that is ultimately used by the industry. We are not doing anything different to what we have done over the last 31 years, just embracing it!”
